One of the most popular politicians in the country right now isn’t even running in this election year. Former President Bill Clinton had by far the highest positive rating when Americans were asked in a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll to rate their feelings on political figures.

That’s up from a low in March 2001, just after he left office, of 34% positive and 52% negative.
Clinton’s Democratic Party hopes that popularity rubs off on its candidates this year. He has been hitting the campaign trail, with stops in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine last weekend and events next month in New Mexico and California.
