This Week In Mystery Babylon The Great

And they say the weather is always nice in California - that wasn't the case yesterday with tornadoes, mudslides, heavy rain, snow and, of course, wildfires.

To the east, in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska... dozens of tornadoes.

Rare Tornado Strikes Southern California

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for parts of Southern California as the region is being pounded by wild weather including torrential downpours. The weather service said at 4:38 p.m. Thursday that Doppler radar was tracking a tornado moving south near Moreno Valley in Riverside County. A KABC-TV helicopter in the area has shown an overturned big rig blocking a highway and a half-dozen freight cars toppled over on nearby railroad tracks.

Tornadoes rake Okla. as Midwest tallies damage; 2 dead

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A slow-moving storm packing tornadoes and hail battered rural Oklahoma on Saturday, destroying several buildings, tearing up trees and tossing a mobile home onto a highway. The bodies of two storm victims were found in Kansas.

Crews Continue to Fight Persistent California Wildfire

GILROY, Calif. — Firefighters took advantage of cooler temperatures and calmer winds Saturday as they continued to fight a persistent wildfire in the Santa Cruz Mountains that has chewed through acres of centuries-old redwoods, destroyed at least 20 homes and displaced hundreds of people.

Prescribed burns help keep wildfires at bay in Oak Hill, Florida

OAK HILL -- With wildfires devouring thousands of acres of wooded lands in nearby Brevard County and elsewhere across the state, Oak Hill may be a little safer because of another type of fire.

A thousand acres of heavily overgrown woods in the Bills Hill area on the south side of the city have been burned on purpose over the last few years in an effort to prevent forest fires.
